Die neue Version dieses beliebten LGB-Modells basiert auf einem echten Wagen, der auf der Pagosa Springs-Nebenlinie der Denver & Rio Grande Western verkehrte. Während der Weltwirtschaftskrise wurden diese Wagen umgebaut, um Personenverkehr, Stückfracht und Caboose in einem Wagen zusammenzufassen. Die wenigen Fahrgäste, denen man dies zumuten konnte – am Ende eines rumpelnden Güterzugs, der bei jedem Gleisanschluß hielt – waren vor allem Viehtreiber (engl. = Drover). Daher wurde der Wagen im Volksmund Drover's Caboose genannt.
Die kugelgelagerten Metallräder sind mit Stromabnehmern ausgestattet.
Die erste Version war LGB 4175 von 1992

This updated version of this popular LGB model is based on a real car that ran on the Pagosa Springs branch of the Denver & Rio Grande Western. During the Depression, it was necessary to combine passenger accommodations, less-than-carload freight and the functions of a caboose in one car. The few passengers who would put up with all of this – riding at the end of a jerky freight train that stopped at every siding – were mostly cattle herders, hence the nickname “Drover’s Caboose.â€
