Als Ersatz für ältere elektrischen Lokomotiven der Serien Ge 2/4, Ge 4/6 und Ge 6/6 I bestellte die RhB 1970 zehn vierachsige Hochleistungs-Thyristorlokomotiven mit Phasenanschnittsteuerung vom Typ Ge 4/4 II. Die Lokomotiven mit den Nummern 611 - 620 wurden 1973 ausgeliefert. Mit ihrer zukunftsweisenden Elektronik bewährten sich diese Lokomotiven von Anfang an hervorragend. 1984/85 wurden weitere 13 baugleiche Lokomotiven in Dienst gestellt.
Diese ab 1973 beschaffte Baureihe wird auch in Zukunft wichtige Transportaufgaben bei der RhB erfüllen. Daher werden die Loks bei Hauptuntersuchungen in einigen Bereichen dem heutigen Stand der Technik angepasst. Äusserlich ist das vor allem bei den Stirnlampen sichtbar. Die ursprünglich runden Lampen werden schrittweise gegen eckige ausgetauscht. Das LGB-Modell gibt das aktuelle Aussehen der Ge 4/4 II 618 wieder. Mit dieser Lok sind Sie im Modell so aktuell wie beim Vorbild. Weitere Highlights sind: rot/weißer Lichtwechsel, Türen zum Öffnen, nachgebildeter Führerstand und Pantographen, die sich bei Fahrtrichtungswechsel entsprechend heben oder senken.

To replace older electric locomotives of the types Ge 2/4, Ge 4/6 and Ge 6/6 I, the Rhätische Bahn (RhB) in 1970 ordered ten modern four-axle locomotives with thyristor controls. The locos were delivered in 1973 and numbered 611-620. With their cutting-edge electronics, the locomotives immediately were a great success. Compared to conventional electric locos, a carefully designed suspension for the power trucks and optimized regulation of the traction motors maximized the pulling power of these locos.
In 1984/85, the RhB received 13 identical locomotives, which already were painted in the current red livery of the RhB. On the RhB's AC-powered lines, the Ge 4/4 II today haul many express, commuter and freight trains.
Introduced in 1973, this series of locos continues to be an important motive power asset on the Rhätische Bahn. To make sure these 30-plus-year-old machines can still fulfill their key transportation tasks, they are being upgraded when they go to the shops for overhauls. Outwardly, the most obvious change is the move from round to rectangular headlights, and this up-to-date LGB model reproduces that change and the authentic modern livery of Number 618. The motorized pantographs automatically raise and lower to match the direction of travel. The lanterns also change color, white or red, according to the direction of travel. Detailed twin cabs and passageways complete this model.
