Eisfeld Valier RAK II Raketenauto (Rocket car)
Eisfeld Valier RAK II Raketenauto (Rocket car) |
Description: |
In the twentieths, the pyrotechnical institute I. E. Eisfeld in the town of Silberhütte, Germany, developed a rail-based rocket under the guidance of the rocket scientist Max Valier . It was called called Eisfeld-Valier Rak 1. This vehicle, which weighed only 51 kg (112 lbs), was tested in 1928 at the rail line Stiege Friedrichshöhe where it met with an accident.
A little later, a modified version was tested on the rail line Blankenburg Börnecke. Propelled by 36 solid-state rockets, Rak II reached a speed of 235 km/h (147 mph).
The model here is powered by a Carrera-drive and batteries and is super quick just like the prototype.
The model was constructed using the few measurements and photographs published in the magazine Volldampf.
Driving this car around a circle - super fast; it cannot however be driven over switches - too fast and too light. |
