Vorbild:
Die Reno-Lokomotive wurde 1872 von Baldwin für die Virginia & Truckee Railroad in USA gebaut.
Die V&T war eine normalspurige Bahnlinie in Nevada, USA, die vor allem Gold- und Silbererz transportierte, wozu die Reno-Lokomotive eingesetzt wurde. Nach jahrzehntelanger Arbeit begann Reno eine Karriere im Filmgeschäft. Der vielleicht berühmteste Film ist Union Pacific aus dem Jahr 1937.

Die Lokomotive ist ein klassisches Beispiel des amerikanische Typs4-4-0 und gehört zusammen mit den Lokomotiven in Promontory Point, Utah, zu den berühmtesten ihrer Klasse. Die Lok existiert noch heute und war zuletzt in dem Film Wild, Wild West (1997) zu sehen.

Modell:
Dies war die dritte Lokomotive von Aster Hobby, nach der Schools und der JNR Mogul Lokomotive, die beide ein Jahr zuvor, in 1975, erschienen.

Die Lokomotive ist in toskanischem Rot und Schwarz lackiert, mit Wasserrohr, Kessel und Spirituslampe, zwei doppeltwirkenden Zylindern und Schlupfexzenter für den Rückwärtsgang. Zu den Details gehören ein Sicherheitsventil in der Kuppel, ein Manometer, ein Schauglasregler und ein Gebläse, ein funktionierender Tender mit Wassertank und Handpumpe, ein Kraftstofftank und ein Nadelventil für den Brenner.

Live-Steam model of the Reno locomotive of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad

Prototype:
The Reno Locomotive was built for the Virginia & Truckee Railroad by Baldwin in 1872.
The V&T was a standard-gauge line in Nevada that primarily hauled gold and silver ore, which is what the Reno loco was put to work doing. After several decades of work, Reno started a career in pictures. Perhaps the most famous of these was Union Pacific in 1937.

The locomotive is a classic example of the American 4-4-0 and, along with the engines at Promontory Point, Utah, is among the most famous of its class. The engine exists today and was most recently featured in the film Wild, Wild West (1997).

Model:
This was Aster Hobby’s third locomotive, after the Schools and the JNR Mogul, both released a year ealier in 1975.

The locomotive is finished in tuscan red and black livery, fitted with water tube, boiler and spirit lamp, twin double-acting cylinders and slip eccentric reverse, details include safety valve in dome, pressure gauge, sight-glass regulator and blower, working tender with water tank and hand-pump, fuel tank and needle valve control to burner.
